Plan a Colored PPF Tesla Project near Miami, FL

We changed this Tesla crossover from dark metallic blue-gray to a glossy pale aqua blue using colored paint protection film. The new finish covers the main painted exterior panels, while the glass roof, black handles, cameras, lights, wheels, and lower trim remain exposed.

The result is a full exterior color change with a clear contrast between the pale blue body and the Tesla’s original black details.

What Made This Blue Tesla Color Change Worth Documenting

This project shows how colored PPF can change the character of a Tesla without adding graphics or extra accents. The original finish was dark and understated. The pale blue makes the smooth hood, curved fenders, doors, and rear quarters much more noticeable.

We used colored paint protection film from META PPF rather than standard color-change vinyl. That gave the Tesla a completely new color while placing a protective film layer over the covered paint.

The project also shows why lighting matters when selecting a pale finish. The blue looks cool and soft inside the shop, then becomes brighter and more aqua once the car moves into direct sunlight.

How Does the Blue Finish Look in Sun and Shade?

Shop lights

Under the shop lights, the color appears close to a cool powder blue. The overhead reflections are especially clear across the hood and front fenders, showing the smooth gloss of the film.

In open shade, the finish looks slightly deeper and more muted. Areas around the mirrors, lower doors, and rear quarters pick up more blue-green tones as surrounding colors reflect across the body.

Direct South Florida sunlight makes the finish look brighter and closer to pale aqua or light turquoise. It is not a dramatic color-shift film that changes from blue to an entirely different color. The same shade becomes lighter, cooler, or more saturated depending on the angle and available light.

The Tesla We Started With

The Tesla arrived with a dark metallic blue-gray exterior. Under the shop lighting, the original color could appear almost black from some angles, especially beside the dark windows, glass roof, wheels, and lower trim.

Its large hood, smooth doors, flush handles, front-fender cameras, curved rear quarters, and limited exterior trim created a clean base for the color change.

Rather than changing every dark element, we kept several factory details black. This gave the pale blue body a stronger outline and prevented the finished exterior from becoming too uniform.

What Tesla Details Needed Special PPF Planning?

Tesla’s broad, smooth panels leave few natural places to hide film edges. The hood and doors need clean, uninterrupted coverage, while smaller features require more detailed planning.

For this project, we worked around:

  • Front-fender camera housings
  • Flush door handles
  • Mirror caps and light housings
  • Wheel arches
  • Door and hatch gaps
  • Glass roof and surrounding trim
  • Lower rocker and bumper sections

Because panel shapes and camera positions vary, every Tesla wrap and protection project needs model-specific planning.

The camera housings and door handles stayed black, while the mirror caps were wrapped in pale blue. The wheel-arch trim, rocker panels, windows, glass roof, wheels, and lower bumper sections remained in their original dark finish, creating a clean border around the lighter body.

Why This Was Not a Standard Vinyl Color Change

The finished Tesla has the full visual transformation of a vinyl color-change wrap, but the material used was colored PPF. Vinyl primarily changes appearance, while colored paint protection film changes the finish and adds a thicker protective layer.

For this installation, application solution allowed us to position the film across each panel before removing the liquid and finishing the edges.

The roll was labeled META PPF and “Paint Protection Film.” Its pale aqua finish has a smooth gloss without printed graphics, metallic flakes, or a dramatic color-shifting effect.

Was the Tesla Fully Wrapped or Partly Covered?

We covered the main painted exterior panels to create the appearance of a complete color change.

The pale blue finish extends across:

  • Hood
  • Front bumper
  • Front fenders
  • Doors
  • Rear quarter panels
  • Mirror caps
  • Painted sections of the rear
  • Painted bumper areas

The retained black areas include:

  • Glass roof
  • Windows and surrounding trim
  • Door handles
  • Camera housings
  • Wheel-arch trim
  • Rocker trim
  • Lower bumper sections
  • Lights and wheels

This combination makes the exterior read as pale blue from every main angle while keeping the factory-style black contrast around the roof, glass, lower body, and functional components.

How Was the Color PPF Installed?

We began by measuring and separating the pale blue film into sections for the individual body panels.

The hood received one large sheet, allowing the color to run across the broad surface without an unnecessary seam. We positioned the material using application solution, then worked across it with a squeegee to remove trapped liquid and air.

The front fenders required more shaping. The film had to follow the wheel arches, meet the hood and door gaps cleanly, and finish around the camera housings without covering them.

The installation included:

Proper vehicle preparation before PPF was particularly important because a pale glossy finish can make dust, residue, or trapped contamination more noticeable.

The Blue Tesla Before and After

Before the color change, the dark paint blended with the roof, windows, trim, and wheels, giving the car a more uniform appearance. The pale aqua finish creates a stronger contrast and makes the body lines easier to see.

The new color flows across the hood, fenders, doors, mirror caps, and rear quarters, while the black glass, trim, lower sections, and wheels frame the lighter body. In bright sun, the blue appears more vivid. In partial shade, it becomes softer without losing its pale aqua character.
